Knife Crime Education

As part of our ongoing education programme for students linked to knife crime, we have been working with West Midlands Police and other outside organisation to ensure our students get the information they need to keep themselves and others safe. As you are aware, we have done lots of work on this throughout this term and we hope your children have found this useful and continued the conversations with their families at home.

On Wednesday 14th July, we have a knife pole in school – this is part of the offer from West Midlands Police to work with schools to educate students and help keep our community safe. On this day all students will be taken past the pole, they will then have a superficial bag search from a member of our staff and also have the opportunity to talk to the Police Officers present to ask any questions. Also, as part of this day we have a guest speaker in school, who will talk to students in different year groups as part of our education programme linked to knife crime.

We hope this day will be positive for all students, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me: [email protected]

COVID-19 Testing in School:  March 2021

As we return to school in March 2021, we will be conduting a number of COVID-19 tests on students.  Following these tests, the government plan for home-testing kits to be made available for parents to use at home.

We have created a guide for parents on this and on the registration process that parents are required to complete for both the tests in school and the tests at home.

This can be found by following this link or by using the tab in menu to the left of this page:

Online Safety – Advice for Parents

Online safety is a major concern for many parents, especially as our children sometimes seem to be more knowledgeable about computers, phones and other gadgets than we are.

Pupils are taught about online safety at Arena Academy in Personal Development (PD) lessons and encouraged to be careful online, and taught ways to keep safe.  Our internet is restricted, and pupils cannot access inappropriate sites from our PCs, however these restrictions do not apply at home.

Here are some  links and documents  to help you as parents and carers to navigate online safety at home.

Additionally you may find these links useful for monitoring specific elements of your child’s online presence.
